What is a TLD?
TLD is the abbreviation for "top-level domain". For example, in the domain name mydomain.com, the TLD is .com and is sometimes referred to as the domain type.
Which TLD should I choose for my domain name?
We recommend choosing from the following list of TLDs if your domain is available with one of them:
.com .net .org .info .me .biz .us
If your website is targeting an audience in a specific country it is best to choose the TLD associated with that country. Note that some country specific domains have special requirements
and may require citizenship. See the full list of TLDs here.
The following TLDs are free (one only) with a web hosting package:
.com .net .org .we.bs .info .biz .us .eu .ru .de
Should I get multiple domains for one website?
It isn't strictly necessary to get multiple domains for one website, however if you are registering a domain that is not .com and the .com domain is also available, we highly recommend registering it for free during signup.
What is the registration period?
Each TLD has a different minimum registration period. Most are 1 year while some are 2 years. Once you have signed up some TLDs may even be registered for up to 10 years.
What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is a public database storing all domains and their owners information. If you wish to keep your details private some TLDs support ID Protection which can be enabled after signing up.
What is ID Protection?
ID Protection is a feature where a third parties details are placed in the WHOIS public database in place of your own. You still own the domain name, but the world is unable to find out who owns it. Not all TLDs support ID Protection, checkout the domain price list to see which domains support it.
